The Sun have revealed that Newcastle United have now entered the race to sign rumoured Tottenham target, Harry Maguire.
It was reported by multiple outlets last week (The Daily Mail and 90 min) that Tottenham could make a move for Maguire after Ange Postecoglou gave the green light to the North London club to sign a centre-back.
The Mail asserted that the Lilywhites have already ‘made checks’ on the Man Utd star’s situation and are ‘well placed’ to make a move for him.
However, it emerged a couple of days later that Aston Villa and Everton were also eyeing moves for the centre-back ahead of the summer transfer window (Football Transfers).
Newcastle join Spurs in race for Harry Maguire
If The Sun’s latest update is to be believed, Newcastle have now also set their sights on Maguire, with the Magpies considering a loan move for the England international.
However, the report reveals that Eddie Howe’s men will have to make a cash offer to sign the 30-year-old as Man Utd have no interest in loaning him out.
The publication adds that Tottenham are ‘yet to make a play’ for Maguire while Aston Villa are continuing to ‘watch the developments closely’.
Spurs Web Opinion
I would be surprised if Tottenham pushed ahead with a move for Maguire.
Not only would the centre-back’s lack of recovery pace be a problem while playing in Postecoglou’s high line but the Australian would also likely prefer working with young, up-and-coming players rather than veterans such as the Man Utd star.
