According to the print edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), AS Roma will look to sell Tottenham target Roger Ibanez before the end of this month since they need to swiftly balance their finances.
We previously covered a report from Giallorossi.net, which named Tottenham and Atletico Madrid as the two clubs vying for Ibanez’s signature.
The publication claimed that neither club were willing to pay more than €20m (£17.1m), which falls well short of Roma’s valuation of the defender.
However, Gazzetta have now claimed that Ibanez ‘is leaving’ the Stadio Olimpico this summer, with the Serie A side already said to have made up their minds to cash in on the centre-back.
Roma looking for quick Ibanez sale
This is because Jose Mourinho’s men desperately need to raise funds before the end of this month in order to comply with the Financial Fair Play regulations. It is alleged that Roma want €30m (£25.6m) for Ibanez, who ‘has his suitcase ready’ to leave the Italian capital.
The report states that the Brazilian has admirers in the Premier League, with Tottenham being named but it is suggested that the Giallorrossi need offers to come ‘quickly’.
Spurs Web Opinion
We know that Daniel Levy looks to take advantage of situations like this, as he did to sign Richarlison last summer right when Everton were running out of time and needed funds desperately.
It is not out of the question that the Spurs chairman might put in a cheeky £15m-£20m offer for Ibanez before the end of June.
Tottenham are likely to make wholesale changes to their defence this summer with question marks over the futures of Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez, while it is said that Spurs are in talks with Barcelona over a cut-price deal for Clement Lenglet.
