Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Dean Rastrick has departed from his role as the club’s academy manager to purse other opportunities.
Rastrick has been at Tottenham for thirteen years since first joining the club from Norwich City back in the summer of 2010.
He initially joined the club as the academy performance manager, before being promoted to the role of club’s academy manager in 2017. His good work eventually saw him assume full responsibility for the academy program three years ago.
This news does not come out of the blue after Football Insider had reported all the way back in March that Rastrick was expected to resign from Spurs in order to accept a senior role at the Football Association and that he will be linking up with former Tottenham academy director John McDermott, who is the FA technical director.
Rastrick leaves Spurs to seek new challenges
Spurs have now officially confirmed that the 47-year-old has indeed departed Hotspur Way to pursue ‘new challenges and opportunities’.
Rastrick told the club’s official website about his decision: “I’ve had an amazing 13 years at the Club and feel privileged for the responsibility and support I have been given throughout my tenure – I am immensely proud of what we have achieved.
“The Club has given me the opportunity to operate at the highest levels of youth football across Europe and the world and to build strong relationships with our domestic stakeholders at UEFA, FIFA, the ECA and various partners across the globe.
“I have been very fortunate to have worked with some incredible staff, people and young players throughout my journey and sit proudly and watch them thrive and flourish, be it here or elsewhere, as elite players, coaches or members of staff.
“What is also very rewarding has been watching the development of our staff and players and a sense of pride at the journeys they have been on as people, not just footballers. At this stage in my career, I feel it is the right time for me to move on and I will always look back at my time at Tottenham Hotspur with great pride and affection.
“It has been an honour to serve this amazing Club and I would like to thank Daniel, the board, current and previous staff and coaches, Club partners, young players and their families for all their support throughout the years, and wish the Spurs team every success on their journeys.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While Rastrick’s resignation might not be ideal for Tottenham, it might not be terrible for the club to have some fresh faces in charge of the academy set-up.
Scott Munn would have likely had his own ideas on how he wants the academy restructured and it would not surprise me if the Australian had already identified the people he wants to put at the helm of the academy.
