Ben Jacobs has confirmed that Tottenham’s reported interest in Manchester United winger, Jadon Sancho, ‘is real’ this summer.
This comes after The Daily Star reported in the week that Tottenham were considering whether to submit a £50m bid for the former Borussia Dortmund star.
“The Tottenham interest is real for sure,” Jacobs said during his appearance on the Manchester United fan channel, The United Stand.
“My understanding is that Erik ten Hag was quite prepared to give Sancho time and as a consequence he’s not at the top of the list in terms of outgoings, but money can talk.
“I think £50m or £60m would be the kind of fee which would give Man Utd a decision to be made, especially if they have other incomings waiting.
“That one is a possibility, nothing is advanced at this point to my understanding, but the Tottenham interest is genuine.
“I would also add a couple of European clubs to the list that have looked at Sancho. One is PSG and the other is Napoli.
“So there’s two clubs there that will both have Champions League football next season that have sent scouts to watch the player and have discussed him internally as well.”
Man United wants around £60m for Jadon Sancho
Either way, it is said that the Red Devils are looking for closer to £60m, despite Sancho’s poor form over the past 12 months, with Ten Hag well aware of his side’s need to raise cash.
If Tottenham could get Sancho back to his Dortmund levels, where he scored 50 goals and assisted another 57 in 137 games (TransferMarkt), then it would be an impressive piece of business.
By comparison, Sancho has managed just nine goals and six assists in 55 games for Man United (transfermarkt) since joining for a huge £73m fee (SkySports).
Spurs Web Opinion:
I think, while this is an exciting prospect, it’s just too much of a gamble for Spurs at the moment. Sancho would have to be the marquee signing of the summer, and there is no guarantee he will rediscover any form. I would rather go for someone tried and tested in the league to a high level, like Maddison.
