Alasdair Gold has said that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to buy two central defenders this summer.
Tottenham conceded a whopping 63 goals in the Premier League during the 2022-23 season, which was the sixth most in the entire division.
While it would perhaps be unfair to lay the entire blame on the backline, there is no doubt that the club are in need of reinforcements in defence this summer.
In fact, it was reported by 90 min last week that Ange Postecoglou had given Spurs the green light for the club to sign a new centre-back just days after his appointment was confirmed.
The publication claimed that the Lilywhites’ top target was Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, while Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte and Wolves’ Max Kilman were also on the club’s radar.
There have also been suggestions over the last few weeks that Spurs are plotting a move for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi (Football Transfers).
Spurs are expected to sign two new centre-backs
Gold has now said that he expects Tottenham to sign two new centre-backs during the summer window.
The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “I said way back that the plan was that Tottenham are going to try and bring in two centre-backs during this window. I think that remains the same.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Even if Tottenham take the option to buy Clement Lenglet permanently, the club would still need one left-sided centre-back and a right-sided one this summer, particularly with Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tangagna looking likely to leave the club.
