Journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed that Tottenham target James Maddison wants to make a switch to St James’ Park this summer.
We relayed a report from The Telegraph last week, which claimed that Maddison has been identified as Ange Postecolgou’s ‘priority target’ this summer.
The outlet claimed that the Lilywhites were set to push ahead with an offer for the attacking midfielder, who was allegedly valued by Leicester at over £50m.
Over the weekend, The Daily Star even asserted that Spurs had already made an opening offer of £40m for the England international.
However, it has been clear from the start that Tottenham face competition from Newcastle United for Maddison, with Sky Sports reporting on Monday that the Magpies are ahead of the North London club in the race for the midfielder since they are able to offer Champions League football.
Maddison prefers Newcastle over Tottenham move
Galetti has now asserted that the Leicester star has expressed a desire to join Eddie Howe’s men this summer.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “James Maddison for sure remains one of the main targets for the midfield. The Magpies have been working for him since January. Maddison wants the move, especially after the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship.”
Galetti also took to Twitter to report that Spurs and Brentford are close to reaching an agreement for the transfer of David Raya, which is said to be worth between £17m and £21.5m.
#Tottenham and #Brentford are closed to reach an agreement for David #Raya.
As told few days ago, only #THFC have been involved in the talks for the GK.
The cost of the operation is around €20-25m: developments expected soon. #Transfers https://t.co/zpqgAlcgPa pic.twitter.com/tPAqcv2TtW

Spurs Web Opinion
While Newcastle have the upper hand since they are in the Champions League, I think Maddison can be convinced to make a switch to Spurs if the club present him with an ambitious project.
Postecoglou is evidently a great communicator and I would not put it past him to convince the 26-year-old to snub a move to St James’ Park in favour of a switch to N17.
The Raya deal seems to be just a matter of time, although I expect to fee to be more like £30m.
