Dean Jones has become the latest journalist to back Tottenham Hotspur to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer.
Hojbjerg has been a mainstay in Tottenham’s midfield since arriving at the club from Southampton back in 2020 but there have been suggestions recently that the midfielder’s days at the club could be numbered.
The Sun claimed last Tuesday that there could be a ‘stylistic clash’ between Hojbjerg and Ange Postecoglou, with the Dane perceived as being more at home in a counter-attacking system such as the ones employed by Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.
The report stated that with the midfielder having just two years left on his contract, his future is ‘in the balance’ this summer.
A couple of days later, 90 min suggested that Hojbjerg and Eric Dier will be ‘allowed to leave’ Tottenham this summer as the club look to reshape their squad ahead of Postecoglou’s first season in charge.
It was asserted that even though both players are part of the squad’s leadership group, Spurs had decided to listen to offers for the experienced pair.
Hojbjerg is unlikely to stay at Spurs this summer
When asked if there is truth to these reports, Jones has now told GiveMeSport: “In terms of Dier and Hojbjerg, I don’t know about Dier.
“I don’t know enough about that, but Hojbjerg, for sure, seems like his future is in doubt. And I think it’s probably unlikely that he stays at Tottenham.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I would not rule out the possibility of both staying at Tottenham as squad players.
Even if Postecoglou does not think the pair are good enough to be regulars, I do not think it would be feasible to overhaul the entire squad in one transfer window.
Having said that, Spurs have been guilty of hanging on to some players for too long over the last few years.
It might make sense to cash in on both Dier and Hojbjerg when their value remains relatively high.
