According to Mucho Deporte, Real Betis are keen on signing Giovani Lo Celso but fear that a deal for the Tottenham man will be beyond their financial means.
The report states that Real Betis are looking for an alternative to Nabil Fekir in the attacking midfield role, due to the Frenchman’s injury woes, and have identified Lo Celso as an option.
It is explained that the Argentine remains very popular at the club after his previous spell, with those in charge of the Spanish side said to be ‘pining for him’ to return this summer.
Spurs have offered Lo Celso to ‘half the world’
However, the report adds that it would be ‘impossible’ for Manuel Pellegrini’s side to cover the cost of any operation to sign Lo Celso, largely because of the high salary that he currently earns at Tottenham.
Mucho Deporte add, perhaps a little tongue in cheek, that the midfielder has also been offered to ‘half the world’ by Spurs, including Barcelona.
We previously relayed a report from The Athletic last week which claimed that Lo Celso would be given a chance to impress Ange Postecoglou during pre-season and fight for his future at Spurs.
Spurs Web Opinion
Lo Celso is evidently one of Tottenham’s most sellable assets from the players who have been deemed surplus to requirements. So, I fully expect the Argentine to be offloaded.
However, most La Liga clubs are not in a position to pay a transfer fee for the Argentine or even cover his wages, which is why Spurs might end up selling the 27-year-old to Aston Villa, with Unai Emery seemingly keen on a reunion with the midfielder.
