According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Porto striker Mehdi Taremi if Harry Kane departs the club this summer.
Bayern Munich are seemingly not prepared to give up their pursuit of Kane but reports over recent days continue to indicate that Tottenham have no intention of even entering into negotiations with the Bundesliga club for their star man (90 min).
Earlier this month, we relayed a report from Alasdair Gold, who claimed Spurs have identified potential replacements for the England captain just in case they receive an offer that is too good to turn down (Football.London).
Taremi on Tottenham’s radar
If Tavolieri’s latest update is to be believed, one of the options that Spurs could turn to in the event of Kane’s departure is Taremi, who has been prolific ever since his switch to the Primeira Liga four years ago.
The Iranian international enjoyed the most successful campaign in front of goal during his professional career in 2022-23, finding the back of the net 31 times and providing 14 assists across all competitions for Sergio Conceicao’s side (transfermarkt).
Tavolieri says that Porto would be willing to cash in on the versatile forward if they receive an offer of €15m-€20m (£12.8m-£17m).
However, he added AC Milan are currently leading the race for Taremi, with the 30-year-old said to be prioritising a switch to the San Siro this summer.
#UPDATE
Spurs Web Opinion
If Harry Kane does leave this summer (which seems like a big ‘if’), Tottenham would likely have to sign at least two strikers of the highest standard to replace him. I highly doubt that they would consider a move for Taremi as not only is he not proven in a top five league, but his age also makes him a poor fit for Postecoglou’s preferred profile.
