After inflicting defeat on Ange Postecoglou in his first game in charge of Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham boss David Moyes had plenty of positive things to say about his opposite number and the Tottenham team.
The new era at Tottenham began out in Perth today, but Postecoglou was sadly unable to lead his Lilywhites to victory in his native Australia.
Playing against London rivals and Premier League opposition in West Ham, Spurs displayed defensive frailties in the first half of the pre-season friendly and were two goals down by half-time.
A much-improved performance in the second half saw Tottenham create a slew of chances and get back into the game thanks to goals from Destiny Udogie and Giovani Lo Celso.
Unfortunately, West Ham stole the win in the end, benefiting from more issues in defence from Spurs.
Nevertheless, the game offered Tottenham fans a glimmer of hope for what’s to come under Postecoglou, with Angeball producing plenty of attacking opportunities.
Moyes feels lucky to have won against Spurs
Speaking to WA Today after the game, David Moyes suggested Spurs are on the right track under Postecoglou.
He said: “I don’t need to give Ange any advice, that’s for sure. I thought his team played well enough that they could have easily scored more goals.
“We were a bit fortunate that we didn’t concede more, but we also defended very well; my goalkeeper played well.
“Tottenham are a good side, they’ve got an amazing centre forward [in Kane], probably the best in the world. And while you’ve got an amazing centre forward, you’ve always got a chance to win games.”

The result today was far less important than the performance, and we saw some promising signs all over the pitch in both halves, particularly the second.
If we can just get the defence reinforced with a couple of new centre-backs, we should be in for a fun season.
