Sport Witness have revealed that the print editions of both Sport and Marca claim Barcelona are keen to agree on a deal with Tottenham over Clement Lenglet’s transfer before they embark on their pre-season tour to the United States.
According to Sport, Xavi Hernandez does not want Lenglet to be part of the squad that flies off to the US, which is why the Catalan club are hoping that progress can be made in their negotiations with Spurs over the Frenchman.
Barcelona want Lenglet gone as soon as possible
The report explains that despite Lenglet being given a week off to ‘speed up’ the move to Tottenham and even though there have been ‘intense negotiations’ between the two clubs, the transfer is far from finalised just yet.
Meanwhile, Marca also back up the claim about Xavi not wanting the 28-year-old to travel with the squad on the pre-season tour.
The outlet adds that the reigning La Liga champions are desperate to get the Sevilla man’s salary off their wage bill, which is why they are hoping to find a solution sooner rather than later.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham are absolutely right to play the waiting game in this case as the longer this drags on, the more the pressure mounts on Barca to lower their demands.
I suspect we will see some breakthroughs in these talks over the coming days.
