Cristian Romero has admitted that he will be sad if Hugo Lloris departs the club this summer, remarking that the Frenchman took him under his wing when he arrived at Tottenham two years ago.
It has been an open secret for a while that Lloris is on his way out of Tottenham this summer, with the Lilywhites snapping up Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli to take over the number one shirt.
Spurs seemingly confirmed that the goalkeeper’s 11-year spell at the club is coming to an end when they announced a couple of weeks ago that the club captain has not travelled with the squad on a pre-season tour so that he can explore ‘transfer opportunities’.
Lloris himself has also confirmed that he wants to seek a new adventure away from Tottenham this summer (Nice-Matin).
According to reports over recent weeks, the 36-year-old is now considering offers from Saudi Arabia as well as from across Europe (90 min).
Romero will be sorry to see Lloris leave Tottenham
Romero admitted that he has grown close with the goalkeeper over the last couple of years and that he would miss him dearly if he left.
When asked about the 6-1 loss at St James’ Park potentially being Lloris’ final game in a Tottenham shirt, the centre-back told The Athletic: “Firstly, if he does go, I’m not happy at all (with Lloris’s last game the 6-1 defeat) because Hugo is a great guy and he’s given a great deal to the club.
“I think he deserves the very best. Naturally, I’d miss him a great deal because he was a really important person for me when I arrived at the club.
“He always helped me out, and he still helps me now. So if he goes, I’m going to miss him dearly.”

Lloris certainly deserved a better ending to his Spurs career, given the fantastic service he has given to the club but we know that fairytale endings are not always possible in top-level sport.
The 36-year-old will undoubtedly go down as one of the best goalkeepers in the club’s history and one of the biggest legends of the Premier League era.
