Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman has undergone surgery to the ankle which he injured during the club’s pre-season tour.
Whiteman becomes the second Tottenham player this week to have to go under the knife following in the footsteps of winger Bryan Gil who has had a groin operation in an attempt to resolve the problem.
Gil’s injury issues kept him out of Ange Postecoglou‘s Asia-Pacific tour and he remained back at Hotspur Way with new head coach Ange Postecoglou unable to run the rule over the Spanish international in a match day situation to date.
Alfie Whiteman undergoes surgery on ankle injury
Whiteman sustained the injury during an open training session at the Singapore National Stadium on July 25th, a day prior to Tottenham’s friendly against Lion City Sailors, and had to be stretchered off the pitch by medical staff.
No timeframe has been placed on Whiteman’s recovery period following the procedure.
A statement from Tottenham read: “We can confirm that Alfie Whiteman has undergone surgery following an injury sustained to his ankle whilst on pre-season tour.
“He will now begin his rehabilitation with our medical team and a date for his to return to training will be determined in due course.”

The injury comes as a blow for Whiteman, who would have been looking to rival Alfie Whiteman to be Tottenham’s third-choice keeper this season behind Vicario and Forster.
