Ange Postecoglou has named his Tottenham Hotspur side which will take to the field in this evening’s Premier League clash against Manchester United.
Postecoglou gets his first taste of action today in a Premier League action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Erik ten Hag’s side who only narrowly managed to secure a victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers in their opening fixture last weekend.
Tottenham had to battle hard for a point at Brentford, having originally taken the lead early on and had to rely on Emerson Royal‘s strike in first-half injury time to secure a 2-2 draw.
Cristian Romero, who opened Tottenham’s goalscoring account for the 2023/24 campaign is fit enough to take his place in central defence following the blow to his head which he sustained at the Gtech Stadium minutes before his goal and was taken off by Postecoglou soon after as a precautionary measure.
Spurs won their first five league fixtures at home last season but recorded just seven victories in their remaining 14 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Their solitary home draw came against Manchester United.
Postecoglou received a warm welcome from the away fans at Brentford, who sung his name, however, the Australian feels that he wants to prove himself to the supporters.
He told Football.London: “I’m not all over social media but I’m well aware when things aren’t going well, it slowly filters through to me. I’m obviously pleased that our supporters and people associated with the club are feeling positive. It was an OK start for us, we’re still in the very early stages of the way we want to play and go about things. The most positive thing to take out of the first game for us was we had a lot of things go wrong in the first 45 minutes that aren’t part of your planning. We scored first, our most experienced and accomplished defender in a very young back four has to go off.
“Then we conceded a penalty, which at the time I’m thinking was a bit of a harsh one. Then you watch Monday night and it reframes your thinking. Then we concede an own goal from a guy making his debut. With all those things in that context, it could have gone south really quickly but I really liked the way the players reacted to it.
“That was the most positive thing for me, it wasn’t our football. I still think we’ve got a long way to go there We’re going to need resilience this year for sure, we’re going to be tested many times. That was a good early sign for us.”
