Ange Postecoglou has revealed that he was shown a yellow card as a result of coming out of his technical area to protest a referring decision.
Given the way the evening started for Tottenham, who took an early lead and dominated proceedings for the first 30 minutes, hardly anyone would have anticipated what was about to follow.
Things unravelled quite spectacularly for Ange Postecoglou’s men in the latter stages of the first half and early part of the second period as both Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were given their marching orders on either side of the interval.
To compound matters, Micky van de Ven and James Maddison also had to come off due to injuries, with Spurs ending up with a centre-back partnership of Eric Dier and Emerson Royal, and then Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Ange Postecoglou was shown a yellow card vs Chelsea
The home side gave an excellent account of themselves and showed a lot of bravery in the final 30 minutes of the game, and despite being on the end of receiving end of a 4-1 defeat, got a standing ovation from the supporters after the final whistle.
It was not just a couple of Spurs players that went into the book but also Postecoglou, who was cautioned towards the end of the first half.
When asked why he was booked, the Tottenham head coach told Football.London: “I think it was when the linesman didn’t put his flag up and I thought he was closing down Vic and he was offside. I think I went outside my technical area which is fair enough.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I am quite pleased that neither Postecoglou nor the majority of Spurs fans online are moaning about any of the refereeing decisions or VAR’s interventions, and are accepting the defeat with grace, thus setting an example to others.
