Roma Giallorossa have claimed that Eric Dier is keen on reuniting with Jose Mourinho at AS Roma in January.
Dier got his first minutes of the season in the London derby against Chelsea on Monday, coming on as a first-half substitute.
The 29-year-old had to play alongside Emerson Royal in central defence for the majority of the encounter after Micky van de Ven went off injured, and was later partnered by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Being faced with the almost impossible challenge of playing in an extremely high defensive line despite Tottenham playing with two fewer players on the pitch, the experienced centre-back gave a decent account of himself.
Dier will likely have an important role to play for Ange Postecoglou’s men over the coming weeks but the speculation over his future continues to intensify ahead of the January window.
Multiple reports from Italy have claimed over the last few weeks that the Tottenham man is Mourinho’s top centre-back target at Rome (Corriere dello Sport via Calciomercato).
Dier open to reuniting with Jose Mourinho at Roma
This has now been backed up by Roma Giallorossa, who state that the Portuguese manager is eyeing a reunion with Dier amidst Chris Smalling’s injury woes.
The publication further asserts that Dier would ‘gladly embrace Mourinho again’ if he gets a chance to move to the Stadio Olimpico in January.

With Romero suspended for three games and with Van de Ven likely out injured for the long haul, Postecoglou is going to have to rely on Dier over the coming weeks and months.
His performances will likely dictate whether the Australian insists on hanging on to the experienced defender until the end of the season.
