David Ornstein has named Tottenham Hotspur as a potential destination for Ivan Toney but the journalist explained that the striker might not leave Brentford during the January transfer window.
Multiple publications have reported recently that Toney is expected to be the subject of a bidding war between several top sides when his ban lapses in January.
This includes an update by The Daily Express last month, which suggested that Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea are set to battle it out for the 27-year-old, who had allegedly expressed his intention to leave the Gtech Community Stadium.
Last week, Sky Sports claimed that the Bees had no intention of letting their star striker leave in January and that it would take a whopping £100m to prise him away from the West London club.

Where will Ivan Toney end up next year?
However, Ornstein has now questioned these claims, suggesting that the England international’s future largely still remains unclear.
He told NBC Sports: “To my knowledge, there’s been no movement so far and this reported asking price of in excess of £100 million that Brentford have allegedly put on him, I don’t know of them putting an asking price on him so far, so I think we need to show a bit of calm with this.
“He’s moved agencies to CAA Base who are renowned for getting deals done so I think that may have fuelled a lot of this scrutiny. But let’s see how it develops.
“He’s had a contract in the summer of 2025 so I think currently it’s looking less likely he’ll move in January, maybe more likely in the summer. But I’ve been advised not to rule out free agency the summer after next so watch this space on that.
“When you look at the options, Arsenal of course Financial Fair Play [FFP] problems and when they do get money, they’re going to need to spend that on David Raya.
“Chelsea do want an attacker but is he the right age and profile? I don’t think he is high on their list at the moment, contrary to reports. Manchester United – the ownership situation and the lack of clarity there. Tottenham is worth watching but I would say they’re doing very well as things stand.”

We might see Toney’s future become a bit clearer as we get closer to the January window. I am personally not convinced that signing a number nine would be one of Postecoglou’s priorities in the winter. I expect Sprus to enter the market for another wide-attacker instead after Ivan Perisic’s ACL injury.
