Fabio Capello has urged Juventus to pursue Sassuolo midfielder Domenico Berardi over Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in January.
The speculation linking Hojbjerg with a move to Juventus continues to intensify as we get closer to the transfer window.
Earlier this week, multiple outlets claimed that the Serie A club’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli and his assistant Giovanni Manna were at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday to run the rule over the Dane (Telegraph).
This claim was also backed up by La Stampa, who reported on Thursday that Giuntoli and Manna even met Hojbjerg and his agent during their trip to London.
The outlet explained that while the Old Lady have been able to reach an agreement with the Dane’s representative, the €30m (£26m) fee demanded by Spurs is a stumbling block to the transfer.
As a result, Juve were said to be keeping tabs on other alternatives, including Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips.
Will Juventus bid for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg?
However, Capello has now urged his former club to sign someone like Berardi, who can offer more in attack, rather than pursuing either the Spurs or the City star.
The 77-year-old told Gazzetta dello Sport: “I’ve always thought Phillips is a complete midfielder. And the same is true of Hojbjerg.
“However, Berardi is the creative player Allegri is missing. If (your attackers) move well, Domenico will deliver a perfect pass. His passes are quick and dangerous, not slow, and he’d bring added value to Juventus.
“(Berardi) would create an excellent attacking trio with Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The fact that Juve’s sporting director himself flew to London to watch Hojbjerg and allegedly speak to his representative, suggests that the Serie A club’s interest in the Dane is quite concrete and that the move could be far more advanced than we think.
