If Danny Rose’s time at Tottenham Hotspur is to be remembered for one thing and one thing only, it will be his wonder goal against Arsenal back in 2010. Now, the man himself has been discussing that ‘special’ moment.
Signed from Leeds United as a youngster, Rose would go on to establish himself as the first-choice left-back for Spurs under a variety of different managers over the years. He made 213 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring nine goals (Transfermarkt).
None of his goals will come close to the incredible effort in his first North London derby, though. Premier League debuts don’t get much better than this, really.
With a corner swung into the box, Arsenal keeper Manuel Almunia punched the ball clear. Falling at Rose’s feet, the youngster decided to have a hit, and the rest is history. Spurs would go on to win the game 2-1 thanks to a Gareth Bale goal.
Rose explains his North London Derby wonder goal
Speaking to the Off the Shelf podcast for the club, Rose explained how Ledley King‘s pre-match talk helped him, and how it felt to score that wonderful goal.
On King’s influence, he said: “I was sitting next to Ledley King in the dressing room. Ledley doesn’t say a lot, but when he does, you know it’s important, so you listen. He said, ‘look, you’re playing, continue everything you’ve been doing in training and enjoy it’. I’ll always remember that.”
As for the goal, Rose added: “The goal was special. I’ve said before, had I played 30 games at the time, I’d have brought it down, but I just hit it and thankfully, I caught it so sweetly. I’m just so pleased to have played a part in the club reaching the target of that season.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It’s easy to forget just how good Danny Rose was sometimes, as he was just one player in a very good Spurs squad, particularly towards the end of his time at the club. But my word, that goal was an unforgettable moment, and a truly incredible finish.
