The Sun have claimed that rumoured Tottenham target Ivan Toney is ‘torn’ over leaving Brentford in January as he feels he owes a lot to the West London club.
Over the last few weeks, there have been some contradictor reports about Toney, who is thought to be on the radars of Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea (Daily Express).
TEAMtalk reported on November 16 that the Bees expect the centre-forward to leave in January and have already started looking for a replacement.
However, this was contradicted by talkSPORT, who claimed on the same day that the 27-year-old is ready to put pen to paper on a new deal at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Toney has a tough decision to make in January
The Sun have now alleged that Toney is ‘torn’ on whether to make a step up to a bigger club in January or repay Brentford for what they have done for him. It is explained that the England international feels he has a ‘debt to repay’ to the club and to Thomas Frank.
A source close to the player is quoted as saying: “A lot of people assume Ivan will be on his way after Christmas, but no deal has been done – and nothing has been decided. Ivan is torn over his future. Brentford have stood by him and the club have been brilliant.”
However, the report adds that Brentford are hoping to land Argentinian star Santiago Castro as a contingency plan in case Toney does ask to leave the club.
The club’s scots were allegedly in South America last week and want to swiftly complete a deal for the 19-year-old striker.
Spurs Web Opinion
Irrespective of whether Brentford put Toney up for sale or not, I simply do not see Tottenham getting into a bidding war with the likes of Chelsea for the 27-year-old, who is likely to cost upwards of £70m.
