Calciomercato.it have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have now moved into pole position ahead of several Serie A sides for Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto.
Even though Gnonto showed plenty of promise in the Premier League last season, for one reason or another, he has not really been a regular in Daniel Farke’s starting eleven for the Championship side this term.
The Daily Express claimed a couple of days ago that Spurs could offer Joe Rodon to Leeds as part of a deal to sign the 20-year-old attacker in January.
The outlet added the Lilywhites will face competition from the likes of Lazio and Roma in the Italy international.
Spurs at front of the queue for Wilfried Gnonto
Calciomercato.it have now confirmed the interest of Roma and Lazio in Gnoto but they say that Tottenham are ‘above all’ in the race for the youngster.
The report claims that Ange Postecoglou’s men are keen on adding a winger to their squad and that the Leeds star’s profile is ‘particularly appreciated’ by the Lilywhites.
The publication adds that the Championship outfit would be willing to sell the versatile forward for €30m (£26m). It is explained that while this fee would not be an issue for Tottenham, it would be excessive for Roma and Lazio, who are likely to explore a loan move.
Spurs Web Opinion
It is quite strange that Gnoto is not able to get regular starts at Leeds this season. Perhaps that is down to the youngster not really wanting to be at Elland Road following the club’s relegation. Postecoglou might fancy his chance of getting the best of the 20-year-old, who clearly has an abundance of talent.
