According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are plotting a move for Sporting Lisbon centre-back Goncalo Inacio, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.
It has been widely reported over the last month that Spurs are prioritising signing a new centre-back in January, with a whole host of names mooted as targets for the North London club (GiveMeSport).
Earlier this week, The Daily Mail reported that Ange Postecoglou’s men have a number of names on their central defensive shortlist which includes Inacio, Marc Guehi, Jarrad Branthwaite, Malick Thiaw and Sporting Lisbon’s Morato.
The 22-year-old has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the Primeira Liga over the last couple of years and he has established himself as a starter for the Portuguese national team over the last few months.
Tottenham’s defensive ranks suffered a huge blow earlier this month when summer signing Micky van de Ven was ruled out into the new year after he suffered a serious hamstring injury during the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Liverpool keen on Inacio
TEAMtalk now state that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen on finding a new defensive partner for Virgil van Dijk and has set his sights on the Sporting player.
The outlet explains that the Reds have scouted Inacio closely for a couple of years and the academy product is willing to move to Anfield in January.
However, it is explained that Sporting do not wish to lose the defender halfway through the season and any interested clubs would instead have to meet his £52m release clause to sanction his exit.
Spurs Web Opinion
We beat Liverpool to the signature of Micky van de Ven in the summer and I am sure the Reds will want to avoid a repeat of that in January. I expect them to swiftly meet the defender’s release clause.
Tottenham know all too well that Sporting are prepared to stick to their guns when it comes to the valuation of a player, having taken the North Londoners right to the wire with their negotiations over a deal for Pedro Porro last year.
