Fabrizio Romano has revealed in his column on CaughtOffside that rumoured Tottenham target Victor Osimhen is dreaming of a move to the Premier League but added that a January transfer would be ‘very difficult’ for the Napoli star.
Over the past month, various Italian outlets have talked up the chances of Spurs making a sensational move for Osimhen to fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure.
This includes an update from Calciomercato.it, which stated a couple of weeks ago that the Nigerian had been identified by Tottenham as an alternative to Ivan Toney and that the Lilywhites could make a ‘decisive assault’ for the 24-year-old in January.
However, it was subsequently asserted by The Daily Mail on November 20 that if Osimhen does depart Napoli in January, Chelsea is his most likely destination.
Victor Osimhen would be tricky for Spurs to sign
Romano has now provided a detailed explanation of Osimhen’s future, revealing that even though the striker is attracting interest in Saudi Arabia, he wants to remain in Europe.
In fact, it is alleged that the centre-forward’s number-one priority is to move to England as he is ‘dreaming’ of playing in the Premier League.
Romano makes no mention of Spurs, naming Chelsea and Arsenal as the two clubs keeping an eye on Osimhen’s situation.
However, he adds that a January transfer would be ‘very difficult’ as Napoli are expected to demand a whopping €150m (£130m) to part ways with the striker mid-season.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham would need to almost double their previous transfer record to sign Osimhen and there is simply no chance of that happening. Spurs will likely be looking at centre-forwards in the £40m-£60m price range such as Santiago Gimenez, Dusan Vlahovic and Jonathan David.
