TEAMtalk have now claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have not completely turned their back on a deal for Kalvin Phillips and that the Lilywhites could still beat Newcastle United to the Manchester City star’s signature.
Over the last couple of weeks, multiple outlets have reported that Newcastle are now at the front of the queue to sign Phillips, who is thought to be keen on leaving the Etihad Stadium.
This includes an update 90 min, who claimed on 17 November that the England international prefers a move to St. James’ Park over the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
A couple of days ago, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold shed light on why that might be the case, explaining that the 27-year-old wants more game time than Spurs are willing to offer him.
Tottenham have not given up on Kalvin Phillips
Now, TEAMtalk have contradicted those claims, stating that Spurs ‘could yet join the race’ for Phillips’ signature, with the North London club now said to be eyeing an addition in the middle of the park after Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury.
The report states that while the Magpies still remain the ‘favourites’ for the City star, Tottenham could ‘touch base’ over a potential January switch for the player shortly.
The outlet adds that while Juventus are also alert to Phillips’ situation, Spurs have a ‘better chance of hijacking’ Newcastle’s move for the midfielder since he wants to remain in the Premier League.

Phillips’ only priority at the moment would be to get regular game time under his belt for the next five months so that he can start for England at the European Championship next summer.
So, I do not think the 27-year-old would particularly fancy a move to Spurs as he will have to fight it out with the likes of Bentancur, Bissouma and Sarr for a place in Postecoglou’s team.
