Richarlison has revealed that his pelvic problem had been bothering him for a long time, admitting that he now feels 100 per cent for the first time since last season.
The Brazilian has struggled to live up to expectations since his big-money switch from Everton 18 months ago and some outlets over the last few weeks have indicated that he could be on his way out of Spurs in January (Football Insider).
However, the 26-year-old demonstrated what he can do against Newcastle on Sunday, netting a brace in his first start for the club since having pelvic surgery last month.
Ange Postecoglou said after the game that he was pleased with Richarlison’s all-round game, revealing that the forward is now doing better both physically and mentally after fixing his injury issue (Football.London).
Richarlison is feeling good after surgery on injury
Richarlison has now stated that the problem had been plaguing him since last season, remarking that he put off surgery in order not to jeopardise his chances of playing for his club and country.
Richarlison told ESPN Brasil after Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Newcastle: “I have been suffering since last season. I had been treating it, but it wasn’t helping, I had several injections in the area, I underwent several procedures and it didn’t resolve the problem.
“Of course, surgery was the last plan. As it didn’t work, I decided to have the surgery and I was also thinking about the club, the national team.”
“I didn’t want to give up this, the national team, helping my teammates. I was also a little selfish, I saw that there came a time when I was getting in my way, that there was a time when I had to stop.
“I made the right choice in having surgery, today I came back well. Now it’s time to continue and follow through.”
The former Everton man admitted that he is now feeling a lot more confident about his body is keen on making up for lost time.
He added: “I’m much better than before. Now I feel confident, I feel 100%. I think this surgery helped me a lot to recover in training. Now I’m training without pain, and this is helping me a lot. It’s evolving every day now and thinking about the next game.”

Often at the highest level, a drop off in performance of just a few per cent can lead to very different results as we are talking about extremely fine margins.
Even slight niggles will play on a player’s mind, which might prevent him from exerting themselves that bit extra. Hopefully, we will now see Richarlison grow in confidence and deliver the kind of performances we saw from him at Goodison Park.
