Sport have revealed that Xavi Hernandez’s wish of signing Giovani Lo Celso is set to collapse as Tottenham do not want to offload the midfielder.
On Wednesday, Sky Sports revealed that Xavi had made it clear to the Barca hierarchy that he wants to bring Lo Celso through the door in January after the club’s failed attempts to do so in the summer.
It was alleged that the Spanish coach saw it as a test of how much he is supported by the Catalan club.
Tottenham do not want to sell Giovani Lo Celso
Sport have now backed up the same claim, stating that Xavi was ‘clear’ to the club’s board that Lo Celso is the ideal choice to replace the injured Gavi.
It is said that the 43-year-old is an admirer of the Tottenham man and believes he can form a good understanding with Robert Lewandowski.
However, the outlet adds that a potential deal for Lo Celso will be hard to pull off, firstly because there are doubts over whether Barca could meet the midfielder’s salary.
Secondly, it is asserted that Tottenham ‘haven’t agreed’ to come to the negotiating table for the Argentina international yet.

Right from the summer, Postecoglou has been clear that Lo Celso is very much a part of his plans. There is no reason why the Australian’s stance on the 27-year-old would have changed. An exit next summer looks far more likely for the Argentine than a January departure.
