Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed in his column on Football Insider that Feyenoord have informed Tottenham and other interested clubs that they would have to pay £60m to sign Santiago Gimenez in January.
Among the various strikers who have been mooted as a target for Spurs over the last couple of months, Gimenez’s name has appeared the most often in the press, with several outlets talking up the chances of the Lilywhites making a move for the prolific Mexican.
Last month, The Daily Mirror claimed that Ange Postecoglou’s men are convinced that the Feyenoord star is the right man to fill Harry Kane’s shoes and were prepared to meet the Dutch club’s asking price for the player.
Last week, Todofichajes even asserted that Tottenham are now in ‘very advanced negotiations’ with the Eredivisie side for the 22-year-old.
Feyenoord slap a big price tag on Santiago Gimenez
O’Rourke has now revealed that Arne Slot’s men have no intention of letting their star striker leave on the cheap and have slapped a £60m price tag on him.
The journalist adds that Tottenham are far from the only ones eyeing a move for Gimenez, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Fulham also alleged to be on his trail.
O’Rourke asserts that given Feyenoord’s current stance, the centre-forward is more likely to leave De Kuip next summer rather than in January.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham would be quite happy to push a move for Gimenez until next summer as I do not think singing a number nine is a priority for Postecoglou in January.
The club will likely prefer to reassess Richarlison’s future next summer and make a decision on whether to pursue a Dutchman or another natural centre-forward.
