TEAMtalk have revealed that the path could be clear for Tottenham to push ahead with a move for Belgium starlet Arthur Vermeeren, with Arsenal set to put off their pursuit of the midfielder until next summer.
Vermeeren’s stock continues to grow and grow, with the midfielder hitting the limelight with his outstanding displays in the Champions League this season.
It appears like it is only a matter of time before the 18-year-old is poached by a bigger club and it was reported by 90 min last week that scouts from Spurs and Arsenal were both present to watch him in action against Barcelona.
The publication suggested that both North London sides were studying the youngster closely ahead of the January transfer window.
Arsenal’s U-turn on Vermeeren could help Spurs
However, TEAMtalk have now claimed that Arsenal are set to ‘push back their interest’ in Vermeeren to next summer.
This is because the Gunners are expected to spend almost the entirety of their January budget to strengthen their backline and are expected to address their midfield at the end of the season.
The publication adds that this could open the door for the likes of Tottenham, Juventus and Barcelona, who are said to be monitoring Vermeeren closely.
Spurs Web Opinion
Vermeeren has shown maturity beyond his years over the last 12 months and his displays in the Champions League this season are proof that he is good enough for the highest level.
If Arsenal have pulled out of the race, Spurs should take advantage of the situation and strike a deal for the midfielder as the interest in the teenager’s services will undoubtedly grow significantly by next summer.
