Charlie Eccleshare has revealed that some people at Celtic who knew Ange Postecoglou’s work were convinced back in the summer that Tottenham’s wide players would thrive under the Australian coach.
After struggling for much of last season, Heung-min Son has been back to his lethal best this campaign but the bigger story over the last few weeks has been the resurgence of Dejan Kulusevski.
While the winger has always possessed plenty of quality and been a tireless worker on and off the ball, he is now starting to make the difference in the final third more regularly.
Postecoglou admitted ahead of the clash against Nottingham Forest last Friday that he wants the Swede to be more of a goal threat (Football.London), and he certainly got his wish, with the former Juventus man creating one and getting himself on the scoresheet at the City Ground to help Spurs to a 2-0 win.
Is Dejan Kulusevski Spurs’ most in-form player?
The 23-year-old has also thrived in the number ten role, which prompted Gary Neville to suggest last week that the Tottenham star could potentially evolve into a £80m – £100m player (Sky Sports).
Eccleshare has revealed that people who knew Postecoglou at Celtic would be far from surprised by how well Kulusevski is performing at the minute given the head coach’s expectations from his wide men.
The journalist said on The View from The Lane podcast: “On Kulusevski, that thing Ange was saying about him scoring more goals, that’s such an important part of how Ange plays.
“I remember when he was appointed and people who knew him at Celtic said that so much was about wingers getting on the end of things and they were saying that Son and Kulusevski would fly under him.”
Spurs Web Opinion
There has never been any doubt about Kulusevski’s technical quality. The Swede is undoubtedly one of the best passers at Spurs and has a powerful shot from both feet.
However, for whatever reason, he often second-guesses himself in the final third. Against Forest, the 23-year-old showed how deadly he can be when he gets the ball out of his feet and gets a cross or shot away.
