As talk of the European Super League continues, Tottenham Hotspur have revealed how the club feels about the venture, and it’s safe to say the North London side are not on board with the proposals.
Back in 2021, Tottenham were among 12 clubs across Europe that signed up for the initial plans for a European Super League, along with the other five clubs comprising the ‘Big Six’ from the English Premier League.
All six clubs—along with the majority of their European counterparts—eventually pulled out of those proposals due to supporter unrest and mass criticism from pundits and the media (ESPN).
The idea has been mooted again and again since its early collapse, with talk of a potential league system involving relegations and promotions (Financial Times via Football.London).
Speaking on the matter back at a Fan Forum held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (19/09/23 as quoted by Football London), Spurs chairman Daniel Levy insisted he had no regrets about choosing to sign up for that first iteration of the Super League, but admitted the plans were a ‘disaster’ by the end.
Tottenham do not want European Super League
Now, with speculation surrounding the European Super League arising once more, Tottenham Hotspur has released a short statement on X outlining the club’s stance on the matter.
The tweet reads: “Following today’s (Thursday, 21 December) ruling by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) regarding the European Super League (ESL), we should like to confirm that our position has not changed. We remain committed to the values of European football, and we will continue to work with fellow clubs through the ECA and participate in UEFA competitions.”

Spurs Web Opinion
I am all for conserving the game in its current state, and any plans for a European Super League are not something Tottenham should get involved in. The game is fine as it is, and doesn’t need tampering with.
