Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero had assured fans that he will recover quickly after being unable to finish the game against Everton due to an injury scare.
Romero started the game against Toffees alongside Ben Davies in central defence and the Argentine failed to take to the field for the second half of the 2-1 victory with Eric Dier taking his place.
The World Cup winner was seen on the substitutes’ bench watching the second half of the game with an ice pack strapped to his right hamstring area
Spurs already have Micky van de Ven sidelined since the game against Chelsea back in early November. While Cristian Romero was also red-carded in the same clash and missed out on three subsequent games, Tottenham did not pick up a single win from those fixtures.
Understandably, Tottenham are looking to reinforce the defence. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed around a week ago that Spurs had opened talks with French club OGC Nice to try and sign Jean-Clair Todibo in January.

Spurs cannot afford another injury
Ange Postecoglou has really struggled to deal with injuries and suspensions in his squad this season. The likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Manor Solomon are still some way from recovering their fitness. Yves Bissouma on the other hand was handed a four-match suspension after his second red card this season at Nottingham Forest.
Bissouma is set to miss considerable game time at the start of the year along with Pape Matar Sarr, with the pair off to AFCON, while Heung-min Son could be out of action for six weeks in the new year due to South Korea’s participation in the Asian Cup.
Luckily for Spurs fans, Romero took to Instagram to reveal that he was disappointed to not finish the game and should be back soon.
He wrote: “Another great important victory and a special day to celebrate my 200 games at club level. It’s a shame not to be able to finish the game, but I will recover quickly to continue helping the team. I wish you all happy holidays and always all together.”

The defence that finished the game last night had Pedro Porro, Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Emerson Royal. Three of those four names were not playing in their natural positions. This is not ideal if the club are serious about challenging for a top four finish.
Postecoglou will slowly yet surely recover some of his injured players going forward. The approach to sign Jean-Clair Todibo is also encouraging as he is just the kind of player that our defence needs. Regardless, it’s important for us that Romero’s injury is not serious. Let’s hope that is indeed the case.
