Chris Sutton has said that Tottenham Hotspur cannot be counted out of the race for the Premier League title and backed the Lilywhites to edge out Brighton on Thursday.
Spurs went on an extremely poor run during November and the start of this month, managing to pick up just one point in five Premier League matches.
However, that run is already a distant memory for Ange Postecoglou’s side, who have managed to win their last three games in a row and sat just four points behind the league leaders heading into Gameweek 19.
Tottenham now have a tricky trip to the Amex Stadium up next and they will take on a Seagulls side who have endured some poor results off late and would be keen to bounce back in front of their fans.
Sutton believes that Roberto De Zerbi’s men will push Spurs all the way but he backed the North London club to edge out their opponents.
Are Tottenham still in the title race?
The former Celtic striker told BBC Sport about Thursday’s clash: “My first thought here is that we will get some goals. Tottenham are still in the title race but they were slightly fortunate to hold on and beat Everton, and you just don’t know what you are going to get from Brighton at the moment – good or bad.
“The Seagulls have lost some of the spark they had last season but they have still only lost once at home in the Premier League and I can see them pushing Spurs all the way.”
Prediction: 2-3.
Spurs Web Opinion
The media might restart talks of a potential Tottenham tilt if we beat Brighton but I certainly do not see any Spurs fans getting carried away and dreaming of challenging the likes of Man City and Arsenal.
Our challenge is to stay in touching distance of the top four spots until February so that we can have a real go after we are boosted by the return of the likes of Maddison, Bentancur, Van de Ven, Son, Sarr and Bissouma.
