Here’s how we rated the Spurs players following the opening forty-five minutes of action in this evening’s Premier League clash against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.

Despite a bright start and a lion’s share of possession, Ange Postecoglou‘s side head into the break currently trailing by two goals to nil, thanks to a fine finish from Brighton’s Jack Hinshelwood, and a penalty from Joao Pedro.

Guglielmo Vicario: Made a stunning save early on from a close-range Danny Welbeck effort. Could do very little about the first goal. The game would be out of reach already were it not for Vicario, who made another huge save late on. 8.

Pedro Porro: Very solid defensive work to keep Joao Pedro at bay early on. Has had little chance to push forward, but still got caught out of position a number of times. 6.

Emerson Royal: Has looked a little shaky when Brighton players were dribbling at him. Effective, simple passing out from the back, though. 6.

Ben Davies: The game has moved too quickly for Davies, who has been caught in possession a couple of times and appears to be struggling under the pressure of Brighton’s attacks. Didn’t deal with a loose ball late on which allowed Joao Pedro in again. 5.

Destiny Udogie: Kept busy in defensive areas more than Spurs would have liked, but did a good job tracking runners and winning back the ball when called upon. 7.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: Has worked tirelessly in the middle of the park, both defensively and in bringing play forward. Just needs to be a little sharper with his short passes and getting things moving a bit quicker, but showed some neat footwork in high pressure situations. 7.

Pape Matar Sarr: Pretty much the only Spurs player who has remained composed throughout the first half. Comfortable on the ball, assured covering at the back, and a couple of nice bursts forward. 7.

Dejan Kulusevski: Absolutely foolish pull on Danny Welbeck’s shirt in the box to give away a penalty. May well have cost us the game, and will now miss the next match against Bournemouth, too. 4.

Richarlison: Looked dangerous early on, but faded out of the game as the half went on. Spurs were unable to get the ball into any areas that could bring Richarlison into it. Hit the bar late in the half. 6.

Heung-min Son: Hasn’t seen much of the ball out wide on the left, and when he has, Son has had the ball stolen away from him far too easily. 5.

Brennan Johnson: Looked lively down the right hand side and played some enticing balls into the box. Should have done better when he found himself through on goal but allowed the defender to get back. 6.
