Alasdair Gold has revealed that those working at Tottenham have remarked that Giovani Lo Celso’s behaviour has changed quite starkly this season.
Barring a brief spell during his first season at Tottenham, Lo Celso has never really managed to justify the price tag that the Lilywhites paid to sign him from Real Betis in 2019.
The midfielder’s talent was never in any doubt as he often showcased for the Argentinean national side but he struggled to produce his best in a Spurs shirt and had successive loan spells at Villarreal during the last two seasons.
However, there are now signs that the 27-year-old has turned a corner as he has stepped up massively over the last couple of months following James Maddison’s injury.
Lo Celso told Tottenham’s matchday programme (via Football.London) ahead of the clash against Bournemouth that he now feels completely at home at Hotspur Way and is enjoying playing in Ange Postecoglou’s system.
Lo Celso has matured since first joining Tottenham
Gold has now revealed that there has also been a change in the Argentine’s personality, with many remarking that he has matured as a person.
The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast about Lo Celso: “He kind of stuck within the South American clique I guess, I don’t think he settled fully. He’s 27 now and he was 23 when he signed, he’s a dad now, much more mature.
“Behind the scenes a lot of people have said they’ve seen a very different Gio this season, he’s come back willing to be a big part of things, and he’s using his English a lot more, even in the videos, they never used to contain Gio, but now he’s in there and chatting away.”

Perhaps Lo Celso just never truly felt comfortable under the likes of Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, given what those coaches demand of their midfielder players off the ball.
In Postecoglou, the 27-year-old is now finally working with a manager who has given him the license to express himself and the Argentine certainly has the perfect attributes for the number eight/ten role in Ange’s system.
