Bayern Munich have officially confirmed that Eric Dier has completed his switch from Tottenham Hotspur with the defender having signed a contract until June 30th of this year, which includes the option of a further year.
The writing was evidently on the wall for Dier at Tottenham as it had become increasingly clear that the centre-back had no future under Ange Postecoglou.
Following Radu Dragusin’s arrival at Tottenham, the Lilywhites have this evening given the green light for the England international to complete a move to Bavaria with the Premier league outfit revealing that Dier will initially move on loan.
A statement on the Spurs official site read: “We have reached agreement with Bayern Munich for the loan of Eric Dier for the remainder of the season, with an option to make the move permanent.”
Eric Dier joins Bayern Munich
The move brings the 29-year-old’s nine-and-half-year spell at Tottenham to an end, with the centre-back proving a terrific servant for the Lilywhites since arriving as a youngster from Sporting Lisbon back in 2014.
Dier has endured a difficult last 12 months at Spurs and will be hoping to get his career back on track at the Allianz Arena, and he might even perhaps harbour ambitions of making a late run for the England squad for Euro 2024.
According to various reports, Bayern have paid €4m (£3.4m) for the services of the defender, who had six months left on his contract at the North London club (Fabrizio Romano).
Dier will now link up with former Spurs team-mate Harry Kane at the German giants, after the England captain made the move to the continent earlier this summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
Irrespective of what one thinks about Dier as a player (and I believe he was a lot better than many Spurs fans give him credit for), no one can dispute that he carried himself brilliantly both on and off the pitch and was an ultimate professional during his time at the club.
We at Spurs Web would like to thank the 29-year-old for all the memories he gave us over the years and the passion that he showed for the shirt every single time he stepped out onto the field.
