The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has detailed the important role that Fabio Paratici has continued playing in Tottenham’s recruitment decisions.
After Tottenham signed yet another player who was first spotted by Paratici in the form of Radu Dragusin, who the Italian took to Juventus when he was a teenager, Pitt-Brooke narrates how Daniel Levy has continued backing the Italian’s judgement despite his resignation.
The journalist explains that Levy is not known to take advice from too many people but he continues to ‘back Paratici implicitly’, given how successful the 51-year-old’s transfer decisions have proven to be.
Nine months on from his resignation as Tottenham’s managing director, he is still said to remain an ‘important figure’ at the North London club, even though he does not drive the club’s overall football strategy any longer.
Pitt-Brooke reveals that when Paratici was banned by FIFA back in April, Levy was clear that he would stick by him, with the former Juve director said to have helped play a role in helping the club find Antonio Conte’s successor.
Although Luis Enrique was the former Tottenham managing director’s top choice, Levy decided to turn to Postecoglou instead.
Fabio Paratici continues to consult for Tottenham
The journalist states that since Paratici successfully appealed the scope of his ban to FIFA, which means that he is now free to work in football as long as he does not represent any club in specific circumstances, he has continued to heavily advise the Lilywhites on their decisions.
Pitt-Brooke says that he played a particularly big role in Tottenham’s summer recruitment drive before the current recruitment department was in place and the Italian now continues to work closely with the club’s new technical director Johan Lange.
The Athletic reporter asserts that Paratici played a role in convincing James Maddison to join Spurs over Newcastle United, and was the first to approve Guglielmo Vicaruio and Micky van de Ven before Ange Postecoglou chose those signings ahead of other candidates.

Levy deserves a lot of credit for not only bringing Paratici through the door and giving him plenty of power but also continuing to stick with the Italian despite the negative PR after he was hit with a ban.
In fact, Tottenham’s decision to appoint Johan Lange instead of going for a bigger name for the technical director role might have also had something to do with the fact that they wanted Paratici to continue playing an influential role in recruitment decisions.
