Rio Ferdinand has been taken aback by how much Pedro Porro has improved compared to last season, with the Man Utd legend astonished by the confidence with which the Spaniard is now playing.
Porro is arguably in with a shout for Tottenham’s player of the season so far as he is one of just a few players who have remained fit throughout the campaign, with the 23-year-old yet to have a single bad outing.
What makes his performances even more remarkable is the fact that the former Sporting Lisbon man has had to learn to play a new position, with Ange Postecoglou wanting his full-backs to invert.
The right-back did struggle defensively on a few occasions in his first few months in the Premier League but he has hardly put a foot wrong this campaign, coping impressively in one-on-one situations against some of the most dangerous wingers in the division.
Rio Ferdinand was not impressed with Pedro Porro at first
Ferdinand admitted that Porro looks a completely different player to last season and credited Postecolgou for the defender’s transformation.
The Man Utd legend told Vibe with Five: “Udogie and Porro, the way the manager has improved these two. Porro, I was canning him last year. How have they paid that money for him? He was horrendous last year.
“A new manager comes in, sets him up and he is a new player. It’s unreal. Almost like a bargain. They are probably the two in-form fullbacks, as a pair, in the Premier League right now. Porro is dribbling out all sorts under pressure.”

In fairness to Porro, it is only natural that a young player coming into the Premier League takes some time to adjust to the pace and intensity of the competition. He was written off too early by some pundits last season and is now showcasing just why Spurs paid £44m for his services.
