The Telegraph have revealed that Napoli have now stepped forward to register an interest in signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg before the transfer window closes.
Before the start of the transfer window, it was widely reported that Tottenham had told Hojbjerg, Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris that they are free to leave (Football Insider).
While Dier and Lloris have departed, the Dane still does not look close to sealing an exit from Hotspur Way, having played all 90 minutes against Manchester United last Sunday due to the injuries and absentees in Tottenham’s midfield.
Napoli step forward in race for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
After months of speculation linking Hojbjerg with a move to Italy, there now finally appears to be some movement, with The Telegraph claiming that Napoli have stepped forward to land the player.
The report says that the reigning champions are keen on bolstering the defensive midfield department and have identified the Tottenham man and Fulham’s Sasa Lukic as their two top targets.
The outlet explains that while Ajax had also previously shown an interest in Hojbjerg, the Eredivisie giants are now set to sign Jordan Henderson from Al-Ettifaq.
Finally, the publication adds that the Denmark international’s future might not be decided until close to the deadline since Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma are at the African Cup of Nations.

Both Senegal and Mali have made winning starts to their AFCON campaign and with both teams expected to make it to the knockout stages, Bissouma and Sarr might miss a couple of more matches.
So, if Hojbjerg does leave, it will likely be following the FA Cup fourth-round clash against Man City as Postecoglou would need the 28-year-old for that game.
