Hugo Lloris ended his time at Tottenham Hotspur this January after more than a decade with the club. Now, speaking to the French media, Lloris explained why he opted for the move to America to join LA FC.
Having been a mainstay in the Tottenham side for the entirety of his stay in North London, Lloris moving on in January truly felt like the end of an era, for the fans and for the player himself.
The writing may have been on the wall since last season, when Lloris’ form took a turn for the worst, but it was the successful integration of Guglielmo Vicario into Ange Postecoglou‘s squad that really accelerated the Frenchman’s departure in many ways.
By the 1st of January, Lloris was gone, ready to embark on a new journey with LA FC for the final stages of his career.
Lloris had to take the opportunity to join LA FC
In an interview with Midi Libre, Lloris discussed his decision to leave and what the experience of moving to the US has been like for him and his family.
He said: “I’ve been to the United States several times with Tottenham training camps, and we played in the Champions Trophy in New York. But I’ve never been on holiday.
“This is something new for my family and my children. Discovering a region like California, a place that’s known the world over, is an experience you don’t want to miss. If I hadn’t accepted, I could have had regrets.”

Hugo Lloris has achieved enough throughout his career to have earned a nice, steady swansong out there in America right now. I hope he’s enjoying life with his family there, and that he is fulfilled with LA FC, because he really is a great of the game.
