Amidst speculation continuing to link Conor Gallagher with a move to Tottenham, Alan Brazil has admitted that he is at a loss to explain why Chelsea want to sell the midfielder.
Over the last few days, The Spurs Web has relayed various updates on Gallagher’s future, with several publications continuing to back Tottenham to make a move for the 23-year-old next summer if he does not sign a new contract by then.
Earlier this week, The Daily Mail explained that Spurs would have an advantage over other suitors if the England international decided to leave his boyhood club in the summer as the player would prefer to remain in London.
The report also revealed that the Blues were reluctant to offer the midfielder a new deal worth more than £150,000 per week since some at the club have doubts about his technical ability in possession.
A couple of days ago, 90 min asserted that while Tottenham were put off by Chelsea’s £60m valuation last month, the Lilywhites are expected to make a fresh move in June, with the midfielder’s value set to drop to around £50m.
Will Conor Gallagher actually end up at Tottenham?
Brazil has now questioned the logic of Mauricio Pochettino’s men selling such a key asset to their London rivals.
The pundit told talkSPORT (14/02, 8:10 am): “What about Conor Gallagher, I don’t get it why Chelsea want to let him go. He is linked with Spurs now. They can’t let him go, can they? When you are trying to galvanise your team spirit, then he is perfect.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It shows how dysfunctional things are at Chelsea that despite Pochettino publicly making it clear that he considers Gallagher an important player, the West London club’s hierarchy are reluctant to hand him a new contract.
I cannot help by think that Levy would be smirking at Poch’s fate as the Argentine complained about not having power at Spurs despite being given more power than any Tottenham manager has in the club’s recent history.
