Son Heung-min has admitted that as one of the most experienced players in the Tottenham squad, he feels an extra responsibility to create an environment that makes the younger players comfortable so that they can perform at their best.
Tottenham have decided to change direction since Ange Postecoglou arrived through the door, with the club prioritising acquiring young, up-and-coming talent over the last two transfer windows.
The Spurs squad is now one of the youngest in the Premier League, with the squad full of players in their early 20s who are continuing to develop.
Son, who himself was just 23 years of age when he arrived at Hotspur Way back in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen, is now one of the grizzled veterans of the side.

When asked if he now feels additional responsibility as an older player, the forward told Sports Chosun: “It’s quite sad now that you[the reporter]’ve reminded me of this, now I remember the fact that I am ageing, right before training (laughs). But it is the reality.
“So far, I’ve had many experiences. While being a professional football player, I learned fun things, good things, sad things, and many things. I grew as a football player and as a person, so I hope the younger players feel comfortable. “
Son insisted that while the atmosphere in the Spurs dressing room takes care of itself, he does make it a point to regularly chat with some of the younger members of the squads to ensure that they feel comfortable.
He added: “The players in our team are maintaining a really good atmosphere, and I don’t feel there’s anything in particular that I can help them within this aspect.
“Because the lads always put their best on the pitch, I always think about how to get the best out of these players’ performances on the pitch. For this reason, I always talk a lot with the players and sometimes have deep conversations. I think this could be why we have [recently] seen better synergy.
“For sure, there are assignments for me in the future, to take better care of the players, because these players are certainly playing for Tottenham with a sense of responsibility. I think it is my duty to have responsibility with these things and make a more cohesive team.”

I believe that having Son as the captain is one of the key reasons why there is such a togetherness and family feel among the Tottenham squad at the minute.
Everyone usually looks to the leader and the best player to set the tone, and in 31-year-old, the club are blessed with an extremely empathic and selfless captain, who always puts the needs of the team first.
