According to Opta Stats (as relayed by Daily Mail), Tottenham’s attacking output has considerably increased since Harry Kane left the club while Bayern’s attacking output has dropped significantly.
Bayern are now seemingly in crisis, with the Bundesliga side now looking in very real danger of finishing the season trophyless, which would be a huge aberration, given what the club have been used to.
Thomas Tuchel’s men trail Bayer Leverkusen by five points in the league while they are now also in danger of being bundled out of Europe after being beaten 1-0 in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 clash against Lazio.
Kane has come in for some major criticism on the back of the defeat in Rome, with Bild giving him a rating of six (with 1 being the highest and 6 being the worst) after his display at the Stadio Olimpico.
Stats do not make good reading for Kane
According to Opta, Tottenham have gone from averaging 1.64 goals per game last season with an expected goal tally of 1.42 to averaging 1.96 per game this campaign with an expected goal tally of 1.66.
Despite losing their record goalscorer, who netted 32 goals across all competitions last season, Spurs have also increased their shots per game from 13.4 in 2022-23 to 15.1 now, which shows the impact Ange Postecoglou has had.
In contrast, Bayern, who averaged 2.73 goals per game in the league last season, are now scoring just 2.45 goals per game after Kane’s move to the Allianz Arena, even though the England captain has netted 28 goals in all competitions.
Spurs Web Opinion
This is another example of why correlation does not imply causation. Kane’s transfer is certainly not the reason for Spurs’ attacking output improving or Bayern’s decreasing. It is a consequence of Tottenham going from Conte to Postecoglou and the German club sacking Nagelsmann to appoint Tuchel.
