Tottenham Hotspur dropped out of the Premier League top four again this weekend, while allowing Manchester United to close the gap by another three points too. But, Chelsea have handed the Lilywhites a boost in their Champions League pursuit.
Thanks to the Blues advancing in the cup, Tottenham have a week away from Premier League action next weekend and next play against Crystal Palace on March 2. That’s a whole two weeks away!
Tottenham could do with a week off
Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro are expected to be back in the squad for that match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (Charlie Eccleshare), with the pair missing the 2-1 defeat at home to Wolves.
It should also give the likes of James Maddison some more time on the training pitch to get back to full match sharpness following his long-term injury.
Rodrigo Bentancur has also looked well short of himself since his lay-offs, and Heung-min Son, Pape Matar Sarr, and Yves Bissouma could do with a rest from their international exploits.
If Tottenham can get around to March 2 with a near-full squad, Ange Postecoglou may finally be able to put out his first-choice XI for the first time since he took charge of Tottenham.
That would be a huge boost to the Lilywhites’ hopes of Champions League qualification in the final 10 games of the season, and it could all be thanks to a certain Mr Mauricio Pochettino.
