According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Jose Mourinho was pushing AS Roma to secure the services of former Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris last summer.
It came as a surprise to many when Lloris ended up staying put at Spurs last summer, with the goalkeeper having been relegated to third choice behind Guglielmo Vicario and Fraser Forster.
The former Spurs captain eventually sealed an exit from the North London side last month, completing a switch to Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC.
Mourinho wanted Lloris at Roma
It has now emerged that the Frenchman could have made a move to the Italian capital last summer, with Mourinho said to have been keen on reuniting with him.
It is explained that the Portuguese coach was not convinced by Serbian goalkeeper Mile Svilar and thus wanted to bring the former Tottenham man to the Stadio Olimpico to offer competition.
The report explains that the move did not go through in the end as the Giallorossi owners ‘vetoed the move’ for the World Cup winner.
Spurs Web Opinion
I am not sure the prospect of warming the bench at Roma would have been too enticing for Lloris. He would have wanted to play regularly, given that he is now in the final couple of years of his career and a move to the MLS helps him do just that.
