Jamie O’Hara has backed Tottenham Hotspur to edge out Aston Villa and Manchester United in the race for fourth but admitted that Spurs’ recent displays do not fill him with a lot of confidence.
While a fifth-place finish might be enough to get into next season’s Champions League based on how English clubs do in the three European competitions this season, only a fourth-place finish will guarantee a place in the competition.
It looks like the race for fourth is set to go right down to the wire with Villa, Spurs and Man Utd currently separated by just five points.
The Lilywhites and the Red Devils have the advantage of just being able to concentrate on one game a week while Unai Emery’s side are still in the Europa Conference League.
Will Tottenham make the Champions League spots?
However, Tottenham have been quite lacklustre over the last month, which will be a matter of concern for Spurs fans, with their 2-1 loss to Wolves last week raising a few alarms. Despite that result, O’Hara backed his former club to just about squeeze into fourth.
The pundit told Grosvenor Sport: “Fourth and fifth is all to play for. Even Man Utd are back in the hunt now. You have Aston Villa, Spurs and Man Utd fighting it out. I have to back my boys even though they were pony the other night (against Wolves).
“So I’m gonna put Spurs in fourth. I’m not overly confident but I’m gonna put them in fourth because I think Ange will get it done. And then I’m gonna go Villa fifth and Man Utd sixth.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The race is too close to call at the moment and with 13 games left to go, there is plenty of room for twists and turns. Man Utd have the momentum at the moment but from the evidence of what we have seen so far this season, Tottenham have the highest ceiling out of the three sides.
