Paul Merson believes that Crystal Palace simply do not have the required firepower to hurt Tottenham Hotspur without some of their key attackers, backing the home side to come out on top this afternoon.
Having lost their last home game to Wolves two weeks ago, Spurs cannot afford anything other than three points against the Eagles in order to keep the pressure on Aston Villa in the race for the final guaranteed Champions League spot.
Tottenham have some injury concerns ahead of the game, with Ange Postecoglou confirming that Pedro Porro remains out while Richarlison has also joined the Spaniard on the treatment table, although he did suggest Destiny Udogie could be back for the clash (Football.London).
Tottenham vs Crystal Palace score prediction
Merson believes that Palace’s injuries are much more significant than Tottenham’s, backing the home side to come out comfortable winners to dial up the pressure on Villa before they take to the field against Luton Town later in the day.
The former Arsenal midfielder told Sportskeeda: “This is a nice game for Tottenham as Palace have a new manager in Oliver Glasner and are set to be without Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise, without whom they’ve really struggled this season.
“Spurs play a certain game and this would have been a dangerous game if both Eze and Olise were fit, but without the pair, Palace don’t have enough firepower to secure a positive result.
“Ange Postecoglou’s side have to win this game as Aston Villa have ramped it up a little bit in recent weeks, so I think they’ll get a comfortable win in front of their home fans. Tottenham 3-1 Crystal Palace.”
Spurs Web Opinion
This is not an easy game to predict as Palace still remain a bit of an unknown under Glasner. However, we know that the Austrian likes to play three at the back and his teams are generally quite tactically disciplined. Tottenham might thus not have everything their own way.
