Amid the jubilation of a huge win for Spurs against Aston Villa today, there was one negative to take away from the game with Micky van de Ven pulling up with another injury. Speaking to the press after the game, Ange Postecoglou commented on the issue.
Spurs ran riot today at Villa Park, defeating their top-four rivals 4-0 and moving within two points of Unai Emery’s side with a game in hand.
Goals from James Maddison and Brennan Johnson early in the second half put Spurs in control, before another two goals in injury time—from Heung-min Son and Timo Werner—turned a comfortable win into a demolition job.
However, before the goals started flowing, the Lilywhites were dealt a blow when Micky van de Ven was forced off the field after 49 minutes with a suspected hamstring injury. He was replaced by new signing Radu Dragusin, who performed well in the second half.
Van de Ven injury might not be too serious
In his post-match interview (via Football.London), Ange Postecoglou revealed what the early thoughts are on van de Ven’s injury, and offered some praise for Radu Dragusin’s involvement today, too.
When asked what the diagnosis is at this stage, Postecoglou said: “I’m not sure, he doesn’t think it’s anything too significant. So disappointing for him because he was outstanding again up until that point.”
But, on the opportunity this presented for Dragusin, Postecoglou added: “Great for Radu to come in, his first significant game-time in a big game and I thought he handled it really well.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I really hope this is not a serious injury for van de Ven. After missing so much of the season already, he’s come back and has looked just as sharp as ever, but further setbacks could well pile up and take their toll on his physicality, especially his key asset, his pace.
