Alfie Whiteman has revealed that he is not at all surprised that Guglielmo Vicario delivers the kind of consistent performances he does between the sticks, revealing that the Italian trains with the exact same intensity as he showcases on matchdays.
Vicario has been a transformative addition for Tottenham, being a crucial part of the puzzle in helping the side transition from a counter-attacking outfit to an aggressive, front-foot team.
Not only has the 27-year-old saved numerous goals for Spurs over the course of the season but his calmness and ability to make the right decisions under pressure has enabled the Lilywhites to play out from the back with ease.
According to FBREF’s PSxG minus goals allowed metric, the 27-year-old has saved more goals for his side than any other goalkeeper across the Premier League this season (Football365).
A few Tottenham teammates have also spoken in glowing terms about Vicaro’s professionalism and his work ethic in the training ground on a regular basis, with Micky van de Ven being the latest to do that earlier this month (Optus Sport).

Whiteman has now done the same, revealing that his fellow goalkeeper is constantly focused on improving and becoming the best version of himself.
The 25-year-old said on Off The Shelf Podcast: “It’s incredible. Vic, people see matchdays and the games, but he’s an incredible professional. People around the training ground will know that he’s always here and he’s always trying to improve.
“So I’m not surprised at all. In training, you see him and everything he does on the matchday he does here. That’s the thing with the outside perception of performances. People will be surprised, but internally there is no surprise, people don’t train badly and then play well.”
