Football.London have revealed that a group of Tottenham fans will turn their back to the proceedings on 65 minutes during the clash against Luton Town on Saturday as a form of protest against the club’s decision to remove senior concessions for tickets.
Tottenham have decided to increase season ticket prices by an average of 6 per cent, with the decision not going down well with large swaths of the fan base.
Along with the price increase, the club have also removed the concessions for new senior season ticket holders aged 65 and above from the following season.
The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust have said that they are ‘dismayed’ by the club’s move, with many questioning why they felt the need to do that at a time when they are posting big profits.
Tottenham protest planned for Saturday
Football.London have now revealed that Spurs fans will turn their back to the pitch in the 65th minute of Tottenham’s clash against Luton to express their displeasure at the decision to do away with concessions for those aged 65 and over.
A supporters movement called ‘Save our Seniors’ is encouraging all fans to do the same on Saturday as they feel the club is turning its back on its senior supporters.
The group’s promotion material states: “THFC is turning its back on some of its most loyal fans, the over 65s, by withdrawing senior concessions. We need to show these are not the values of our club. So we are asking everyone to turn their backs on the pitch at 65:00 for one minute.
“We are Save our Seniors, a group of Spurs fans who want the club to reverse its decision to cut and then withdraw concessionary pricing for fans over 65. The club does not need the money this change would raise. It already generates £4.8m every match day.
“This is a choice to penalise some of our most loyal fans. It is morally wrong. And it shames the proud traditions of our club. We aim to organise visual and effective action to get the THFC board to restore concessionary pricing for seniors. That is our focus, our one and only focus.”
This movement also has the backing of THST, with the Trust’s chair, Martin Buhagiar, stating about the initiative: “We are not surprised by the outrage from supporters following the club’s announcement and the changes to the senior concessions season ticket packages.
“Indeed we warned the club of exactly this reaction during our meetings. We have been inundated with personal stories from supporters left devastated by the changes and are highlighting as many as we can via our social media channels.
“SaveOurSeniors was launched as a result of these changes and we fully support the campaign and initiative. Football fans are stronger when they come together and this illustrates that perfectly.”

Fans are well within their right to protest the club’s decision on season tickets in whatever manner they see fit. It remains to be seen how many will be involved in this protest and whether the gesture will bring the issue to the media limelight.
