According to the print edition of Corriere dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotpsur’s pursuit of Santiago Gimenez might have just got more tricky as Napoli have now taken some steps towards signing the Feyenoord striker.
The report says that Napoli have identified Gimenez as the man to replace Victor Osimhen who is expected to leave the Serie A club this summer.
It is explained that the feeling at Rotterdam is that the Mexican will depart De Kuip this summer, with Napoli said to be wasting no time in making a move.
Spurs expected to compete for Santiago Gimenez
Corriere say that the reigning Serie A champions are not the only ones interested in Gimenez, with Tottenham and AC Milan also considering a move for the striker.
In fact, is said that the Premier League side are now ‘moving around’ the 22-year-old and look like they could make an offer.
However, Napoli have already stepped up their chase of the centre-forward, promoting Feyenoord to arrange a meeting with the player and his father, Mariel Duayhe, who is also his representative.
It is alleged that the parties will make a decision in the summit about what happens next, with the Eredivisie club expected to ‘open the auction’ for the striker on May 19th.
Spurs Web Opinion
Napoli would get a big fee for Osimhen this summer and would thus have the financial muscle to outbid Spurs for Gimenez.
They might also want to make a big move in the summer to potentially signal to their managerial target, Antonio Conte, that they are serious about an assault on the league title next season.
